Found some time recently to take my sketchbook & trusty ink pen to a location close to home. Again, for a complete rookie who has never sketched on location before, I’m reasonably happy with my quick sketch. For the eagle eyed amongst you, what I was playing on my smartphone whilst sketching can be seen! As for the items on the left, all part of my burgeoning ‘beach treasure’ collection, hopefully I will find time to use them in a piece of themed artwork …
And as for the 2 pieces of Lego beach treasure in my picture, just perhaps they came from the Tokio Express incident …
Way back in 1997 the container ship ‘Tokio Express’, which was on route to New York City, was hit by a large wave off Lands End in England that caused 62 shipping containers to fall overboard. One of these containers contained nearly 5 million pieces of Lego. Today, some 23 years on, pieces of Lego are still being washed up on beaches in Southern England.
